This project is part of an ecological monitoring programme for bird populations within the Mono Biosphere Reserve, an area rich in biodiversity located in south-western Benin. The study focuses particularly on Lake Ahémé, a wetland of international importance listed as Ramsar Site No. 1017. Through the observation of bird species, this monitoring aims to assess the health of ecosystems, identify environmental pressures and propose conservation actions adapted to this ecologically valuable territory.

As part of these activities, the NGO is implementing an ecological monitoring program in the Mono Biosphere Reserve. One of the sites monitored is Lake Ahémé. The monitoring consists of a regular bird inventory and is conducted during the day (diurnal). It is carried out while moving along pre-established transects in the mornings between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. These transects should last between 2.5 and 3 hours maximum. The team will hold a debriefing session in the office at the end of the inventory to organize reporting and data entry. The objectives of this ornithological monitoring are: - To inventory the waterbird species in the study area; - To characterize the habitats of these waterbird species; - To identify pressure factors and threats to the species and their habitats.
