Registros

This project is part of an ecological monitoring programme for bird populations within the Mono Biosphere Reserve, an area rich in biodiversity located in south-western Benin. The study focuses particularly on Lake Ahémé, a wetland of international importance listed as Ramsar Site No. 1017. Through the observation of bird species, this monitoring aims to assess the health of ecosystems, identify environmental pressures and propose conservation actions adapted to this ecologically valuable territory.

Datos del proyecto
As part of these activities, the NGO is implementing an ecological monitoring program in the Mono Biosphere Reserve. One of the sites monitored is Lake Ahémé. The monitoring consists of a regular bird inventory and is conducted during the day (diurnal). It is carried out while moving along pre-established transects in the mornings between 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. These transects should last between 2.5 and 3 hours maximum. The team will hold a debriefing session in the office at the end of the inventory to organize reporting and data entry. The objectives of this ornithological monitoring are: - To inventory the waterbird species in the study area; - To characterize the habitats of these waterbird species; - To identify pressure factors and threats to the species and their habitats.

| Descripción del área de estudio | Lake Ahémé, recognised as Ramsar Site 1017, is a wetland of international importance located in the Mono Biosphere Reserve in Benin. This exceptional body of water is the subject of a rigorous ecological monitoring programme, with a particular focus on the bird populations that depend on it. |
| Descripción del diseño | This ornithological monitoring is part of a long-term conservation effort aimed at documenting the diversity of resident and migratory bird species that frequent this lake ecosystem. Monitoring makes it possible to assess the health of the habitat, detect changes in indicator bird populations, and identify anthropogenic or climatic pressures that could affect the site's biodiversity. The data collected during these surveys not only contribute to the adaptive management of the biosphere reserve, but also feed into the international reports required under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands. This scientific approach ensures the sustainable preservation of this exceptional natural heritage and its avian communities. |
